With much excitement, the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management returns to Boston, Massachusetts, USA for AOM 2023: Putting the Worker Front and Center. The Annual Meeting is the world's premier event for scholarly engagement, and the largest gathering of management and organization scholars in the world. The Annual Meeting offers attendees a chance to expand research, network with colleagues, and disseminate knowledge addressing the 21st century’s most pressing challenges related to management and organizations. Whether you’re a first-time attendee, an academic, a student, or practitioner, there is a unique opportunity to interact with thousands of like-minded AOM members and colleagues from around the world.

In the past, Boston has been AOM’s most highly attended location, with 10,000+ attendees from around the world. Located in the Northeastern United States, Boston is home to several renowned educational institutions, making it an international hotspot for research and learning. The city’s intellectual aptitude combined with its historic charm make it a sought-after destination for business.

Why Not Hybrid or Virtual?

The 2022 Annual Meeting survey revealed a strong desire to return to in-person events. This desire was echoed by DIG program volunteers who were responsible for managing the complexity of a hybrid program.

The virtual models in 2020, 2021 and hybrid model in 2022 were necessary due to the Covid pandemic and travel restrictions around the world. These methods proved costly, making sustainability of that model difficult. Synchronous sessions often failed to engage the virtual audience, and those attending in person were less than satisfied with communicating to others via a screen.

In 2023 and beyond our goal is to encourage the deep and meaningful pre-pandemic participation that made the Academy’s Annual Meeting the world's premier event for scholarly engagement, and the largest gathering of management and organization scholars in the world. The face-to-face meeting offers members the opportunity to expand research, network with colleagues, and disseminate knowledge addressing the challenges related to management and organizations.

AOM’s Commitment to Virtual Engagement

AOM's commitment to virtual engagement in 2023 will be offered in part through an online meeting platform for viewing the Annual Meeting program and on-demand access to supplemental session materials—including videos, presentation slides, pre-recorded presentations, and select recorded onsite sessions. The platform will be accessible before, during, and after the meeting with the ability to engage with attendees through chat and email.
