Gavel exchange-1123 AOM 2019 in Boston - Presidents Address Awards

Carol T. Kulik served as the 74th President of the Academy of Management during the 2018-2019 term. At the Annual Meeting in Boston, Carol delivered the 2019 Presidential Address, “Management Scholars, End Users, and the Power of Thinking Small,” available to view online.

At the 79th Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, I proudly accepted the President’s gavel from my esteemed colleague, Carol T. Kulik, who selflessly served the Academy of Management with tremendous care and stewardship. As an inclusive organization, we are steadfastly working towards our Unifying Vision and the strategic Driving Goals underpinning our efforts to become the premier global community for management and organization scholars and for advancing the impact of management and organization science on business and society worldwide.

This Annual Report represents the Academy’s activities for the 2019 calendar year.* I’m thrilled to report that August’s #AOM2019, Understanding the Inclusive Organization, welcomed a record number of attendees and received the highest amount of submissions since 2015; and the Specialized Conferences Initiative brought the Academy to Bled, Slovenia in late October to explore Responsible Leadership in Rising Economies amid Lake Bled's spectacular scenery.

Our fully functional, interactive online community platform, [email protected], is facilitating connections, idea sharing, and collaboration across a growing population of Division and Interest Groups and AOM conference attendees. For students, access to the popular and well-regarded CARMA (Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis) videos is now available through the new Doctoral Student Development Program (DSDP), an added benefit of membership for the Academy’s student members. Additionally, AOM Career Services hit record numbers in 2019 with over 700 daily active job seekers and candidates from more than 45 countries.

The Academy’s six Journals were fully engaged with members, authors, and volunteers around the globe in 2019, holding Paper Development Workshops in Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North and South America. AOM Insights, our online magazine for management and business leaders built primarily upon AOM journal content, continues to provide value as a teaching resource, offering summaries of journal articles and related infographics on management topics that can be used in the classroom setting.

This dynamic annual report also offers appreciation for our dedicated volunteers and highlights the Academy’s awards and recognition program, featuring professional accomplishments, distinguished service, and exceptional contributions to the field of management. You can find our financial statement in the concluding section of the report.

On behalf of the Board of Governors and AOM leadership, we thank each and every one of our agile volunteers and members for their myriad contributions in 2019 and beyond.

Academy of Management 2019-2020

*(Unknown at this time was that the start of a new decade would bring a tremendous shock to us as individuals, scholars, educators and as an overall community. Through this adversity, we as individuals, scholars, educators and as a community will grow, become more resilient and succeed because of it, not in spite of it.)
