ORGANIZATIONS AND THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT (ONE)

The Organizations & the Natural Environment (ONE) Division invites submissions for the scholarly program of the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, which will take place in Boston from 4 August to 8 August, 2023. Scholarly paper sessions and symposia will take place on Monday, 7 August and Tuesday, 8 August 2023. The Submission Center opens on 6 December 2022, and the submission deadline is Tuesday, 10  January 2023 at 17:00 ET (GMT-5/UTC-5).

AOM’s plan for the 2023 conference is in-person with some options for recording sessions. 

ONE Domain

The ONE Division is devoted to research addressing how organizations impact and are impacted by the natural environment. Given the substantial environmental challenges we face, including climate change, resource depletion and biodiversity loss, we encourage impactful scholarship that addresses how these challenges affect managerial practice, organizational strategy, and broader society. We particularly encourage scholarship that offers insights into strategies and actions that can contribute to possible solutions. 

Conference Theme

The 2023 AOM theme "Putting the Worker Front and Center” emphasizes the global shifts in geo-political, environmental, demographic, and technological landscapes that are introducing unprecedented levels of uncertainty into labor markets and employment relations.

Our Invitation

ONE invites papers and symposia that address the relationship between organizations and the natural environment, in particular those that relate to the conference theme. ONE can contribute to the 2023 conference theme with a program focused on how the ONE domain intersects with employees, employment relations, labor markets and other worker-centered topics; envisioning how we can “rebalance - in both our research and teaching - the perspectives of managers and of the workers they manage” in ways that relate to ONE.

Joint symposium proposals are welcome, as the conference theme draws on multi-disciplinary approaches across other Academy of Management divisions and interest groups. We especially invite PhD students and new international members, including those who have not previously submitted research to the Academy or ONE Division. If, for your symposium, you would be inviting industry speakers and would need a conference fee waiver, please ensure details of this are included in your submission (we cannot promise the waiver will be granted as it will depend on allocations, but knowing potential needs upfront is extremely useful).

Along with this Call for Submissions, we also make a Call for Reviewers. If you plan to submit a paper, please also do your part to help us review submissions, which will include yours. Our reviewers are extremely important to constructing a rich and valuable program, by offering constructive comments and providing a supportive atmosphere within the division.

You may send us submissions through the AOM Submission Center until it closes on Tuesday, 10  January 2023 at 17:00 ET (GMT-5/UTC-5). Please pay attention to submission guidelines as they will be applied, and non-conforming submissions declined.

ONE Division Awards

The ONE Division offers multiple awards (see Awards section of our website). The Program Chair and Awards Team selects winners of awards for Best Paper, Best Student Paper and Best Reviewer.
