ORGANIZATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE (NEU)

The Organizational Neuroscience (NEU) Interest Group invites creative and innovative proposals for PDW sessions for the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, which will be held in person in Boston, Massachusetts between 4 - 8 August 2023. The Annual Meeting theme this year is “Putting the Worker Front and Center,” with paper sessions, symposia, PDWs, and social opportunities that help address this theme. 

PDW sessions are meant as complements, not substitutes, for the regular AOM program. They should not cover conventional theories and topics or be structured as traditional paper or panel sessions. Instead, PDWs should be innovative in content and structure, exploring issues and encouraging interactions that are not usually featured in the main program. Moreover, PDWs are typically structured as demonstrations, tutorials, or other interactive formats. They provide a forum for exchanging ideas and building relationships in a manner that does not typically fit the constraints of paper and symposium sessions. Knowledge sharing and participation are key, and PDWs present the opportunity to experiment with innovative forms of interaction and engagement. 

The NEU Interest Group favors proposals that give participants the opportunity to learn new skills, get hands-on experience, share ideas, and build connections. Proposals should appeal to members of the NEU Interest Group, which includes academics, practitioners, and students. The most effective PDWs encourage interaction among individuals. Given the unique nature of the NEU Interest Group, we encourage demonstrations of actual neuroscience equipment and technologies (e.g., electroencephalogram, functional magnetic resonance imaging, position emission tomography), and even hands-on experience on the part of attendees. Given the interdisciplinary nature of organizational neuroscience, you are encouraged to work with colleagues within and outside of the NEU Interest Group. In general, please submit PDW proposals that have broad appeal to Academy members in a range of other Divisions or Interest Groups. 

Proposals will be evaluated based on: (1) expected substantive and networking benefit for attendees, (2) plans for creating an interactive and engaging session, (3) breadth of interest of the session for individuals and groups within the interest group and the broader Academy, (4) novelty of the topic or the forum for the workshop, (5) effective use of program time, and (6) fit with the conference theme. We encourage proposals that explicitly address these six criteria. 

Since PDWs are intended for professional development, a proposal should explain how the session will foster interaction and personal development among the attendees who it will aim to attract. To allow interaction, PDWs are typically at least two hours long, although sessions may be as short as 1 hour. 

Format of the PDW proposal

All PDW proposals should be formatted following submission guidelines that are found on the AOM website. Please note that if the submission guidelines and formatting requirements are not met, the submission will not be reviewed. It is also critical that you draft your abstract in a clear and unambiguous fashion as it represents a primary tool for PDW selection among potential attendees, and in particular for PDW proposals that seek to engage other AOM Divisions and Interest Groups. 

Proposals should be submitted to the 2023 AOM Annual Meeting Submission Center.  Early submissions are encouraged.

• Submission Center Deadline: Tuesday, 10 January 2023 at 17:00 ET (GMT-5/UTC-5) 

All named PDW participants must commit to participation in advance. All proposals require a statement indicating that all named participants have consented to participate in the Organizational Neuroscience PDW. Please be informed about “PDW Rule of Three”, that is “no one may submit or be associated with more than 3 PDW submissions or appear in more than 3 PDW sessions during the PDW program.” All PDW sessions will be held on Friday and Saturday.
