HUMAN RESOURCES (HR)
2023 Division Scholarly Program: Call for Submissions
Program Chair: Kaifeng Jiang, The Ohio State
University
Boston, Massachusetts Meeting Dates: Friday, 4 August through Tuesday, 8 August 2023
Specific Domain
The Human Resources Division is dedicated to understanding, identifying, and improving the effectiveness of HR practices to facilitate organizational competitiveness nationally or internationally, encourage individual growth and development, and enhance
individual performance, work-related attitudes, and well-being. The Division emphasizes the study of human capital and HR management practices at the individual, group, organizational, societal, and cross-cultural levels of analysis and their impact
on outcomes critical to the organization, its employees and their representatives, and all its stakeholders (whether future, present, or past). Major topics include a broad spectrum of issues pertaining to the recruitment, selection, allocation, development,
utilization, evaluation, compensation, and retention of people as resources in work organizations and pertaining to the employment relationship.
Special Instructions
The HR Division encourages both empirical and theoretical submissions. Furthermore, we encourage submissions that are consistent with the Division's on-going interest in research that bridges the science/practice gap and/or concerns the conference theme
for 2023: "Putting the Worker Front and Center". The theme calls on us to develop insights into the current workplace challenges faced by managers, policy-makers and employees – specifically addressing questions related to how global shifts
in the geo-political, environmental, demographic, and technological landscape shape the experiences and interests of workers. This year’s theme pushes us to dig into questions related to employment strategies required for organizations to leverage
their people potential and develop human resource sustainability; the impact of the AI revolution on labor market and the nature of work and employment for workers; the individual, organizational and societal implications of the changing nature of
work and new forms of worker organization; and opportunities for organizations and societies to improve the experiences of marginalized workers, migrant workers, peasants, and subsistence farmers. In sum, this year’s theme calls for management
scholars to rebalance our attention, and pivot towards those at the very core of productive enterprise, namely the workers.
HR scholars should be well-positioned to examine these important issues and offer actionable insights for addressing many of these challenges. We encourage submitters of scholarly papers and symposia to consider, yet not be bound by, this year's conference
theme. Please see more details about the theme.
Paper and Symposia Submissions
Both scholarly Papers and Symposium submissions
will be considered for the scholarly program. Details of the requirements for each submission type are outlined in the Scholarly Submission Guidelines.
It is anticipated that all sessions will be hosted in-person on-site in Boston. A portion of selected in-person on-site sessions will be video recorded for on-demand access. All scholarly sessions will take place on Monday, 7 August and Tuesday, 8
August 2023. Keep in mind that developing symposia (including panel discussions) with broad appeal to 3 divisions increases the chance of having a symposium accepted. When submitting a paper, please also remember to sign up to review for the HR Division.
