COMMUNICATION, DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, AND ORGANIZATION (CTO)

2023 Division PDW Program: Call for Submissions

PDW Chair: Sabine Brunswicker, Purdue University

The Communication, Digital Technologies, and Organizations (CTO) Division invites submissions for professional development workshops (PDWs) at the 2023 Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. PDW (Professional Development Workshop) sessions will be taking place on 4 Friday August and 5 Saturday August. PDWs are an opportunity to be innovative, discuss unresolved questions, learn or teach best practices in teaching and research, debate future directions for research, and organize novel activities that bring the expertise and experience of CTO members to bear on the challenges that we all face in our daily professional lives.

We seek sessions that recognize the division’s interdisciplinary approach to further the understanding of the behavioral, social, technical, and economic issues at the intersection of communication, digital technology, and organizing. The CTO Division is actively seeking PDW proposals that address important organizational issues involving anything digital, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics, autonomous systems, and information and communication technologies of all sorts, including those that are embedded in physical products (cyber-physical systems). PDWs around the All-Academy Theme of “Putting the Worker front and center” are encouraged, in particular if they connect to the division’s vision. Workshops can take many forms such as tutorials, town hall meetings, breakout sessions, debates, roundtables, tours, research incubators, or even experiments – as long as they have a clear interactive component. Proposals will be evaluated on their ability to draw an audience from CTO and across the Academy, innovativeness, and potential impact on the professional success of participants.

PDW submissions must be made through the Academy's Submission Center website. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 10 January 2023 at 17:00 ET (GMT-5/UTC-5). If you are interested in proposing a PDW session, you are welcome to contact PDW Chair, Sabine Brunswicker, at [email protected], to get feedback and further develop your idea for a PDW session.
